Name:
Christa Calamatta (née Miller) Birthday:
8th November 1977
Location:
San Gwann, Malta (Europe)
Musical Background:
Christa acquired an appreciation
for music from an early age. She was exposed for classical
music and Italian opera by her father with whom she
would spend many blissful hours soaking up Tchaikovsky
and listening to Puccini and Verdi. Classical compositions
and the emotional opera always fascinated and intrigued
her.
At school she formed part of the school choir and
she was always looking for opportunities to use her
musical talents. In fact, from early childhood with
relatively little effort, she would manage to coax
a melody out of any instrument she came across: harmonica,
flute and even piano. When she was 12 she picked up
a classical guitar and with the help of a couple of
books she was soon plucking some very good tunes.
On turning 18 she joined her
first band as a vocalist. In the main, this band
animated Sunday youth mass with
rock music at L-Ibragg Church but also gave some live
gigs amongst which were their ‘Christ Buzz I & II’.
The group broke up and in 2000
Christa auditioned and was chosen to perform with
the ‘Voices Choir’.
This experience broadened her perspective as her voice
continued to develop its expressive melodious quality.
In June 2001, Carlo, who had
heard her sing as a soprano with ‘Voices Choir’,
invited her to meet for some jamming sessions. She
blended very well with
the style and soon joined the line-up as the main vocals
of the band.
